Growing up, both DeMarcus’ parents struggled with addiction issues.  And according to the AAETS*, “…children of addicts are 3 to 4 times more likely to develop a chemical dependency.”

So it wasn’t too surprising when DeMarcus came to Royal Pines asking for help.

“It was under those pine trees that I accepted Christ and changed my life.”

“Opiates was my main addiction,” DeMarcus shared with us.  “When others were finding security in their family and careers, I was finding security in drugs.  I felt like life had forgotten about me.”

DeMarcus had a friend that had graduated from Royal Pines.  “He said it was the answer for him, so I thought I would give it a try.” DeMarcus said.

“After a couple of weeks, I began to feel the change my friend had told me about,” DeMarcus said.  “I didn’t want to return to that lifestyle; I wanted to build a life worth living.”  According to DeMarcus, “It was under those pine trees that I accepted Christ and changed my life.”

Growing in God’s Glory

Since coming to Royal Pines, DeMarcus has truly transformed his life.  “I have returned to college and I have been given an opportunity to help people, people like me, overcome their obstacles.”  DeMarcus happily shared.  He is back in college and is two semesters away from completing his schooling.

DeMarcus shared that he is also working on repairing his relationship with his 13-year-old daughter.  “I have overcome a lot of issues,” he said.

It’s your support that has helped transform DeMarcus’ life, and the lives of others like him.

Because of you, DeMarcus was able to say “My family has been restored, my future has been renewed, and my passion for life has returned.”
