And the Winner is…

First place winner, Birmingham Business Journal.
The Birmingham Business Journal has regained their title, and is now the 2016 ‘Fastest Servers of the South.’ For two weeks, businesses in the Birmingham area including Appleseed Workshop, Birmingham Business Journal, WIAT CBS 42, Integrated Medical Systems (IMS), Intermark, Merrill Lynch, Royal Restoration, and Southern Company visited the Mission ready to compete and to serve 75 plates in the least amount of time. This year’s competition was not only bigger with more businesses, but was also faster! The Birmingham Business Journal had a time of 2:30 which is forty-three seconds faster than their 2015 time and sixteen seconds faster than last year’s winner, IMS. Appleseed Workshop would take home 2nd place in the competition with a time of 2:42.
The competition is a part of the Mission’s annual Christmas in August celebration which raises awareness that homelessness and hunger are year-round issues and not just seasonal concerns. While we encourage giving and donating throughout the year, we typically see the majority of donations around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. As on Christmas day in December, on August 25th, clients will receive a traditional Christmas dinner with turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce along with all the trimmings of a holiday meal.
If you would like to still be a part of the Christmas in August celebration, click here to donate. Just $1.95 will provide a meal to the men, women and children we serve.
