Steris-IMS wins Fastest Servers in the South competition for second straight year
For two grueling weeks eight teams representing as many local businesses battled in the dining hall of the Shepura Men’s Center downtown. The prize? A five-inch tall trophy, but more importantly, the title of “Faster Servers in the South” and a year’s worth of bragging rights. The path to glory was lined with 75 plates, each of which needed to be filled with country fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, and a roll. The challengers donned plastic aprons and Santa hats while blazing their way through the stack in a plate-making frenzy. Last year’s showdown ended in a tie, but this year a single team proved slightly faster than the rest. Steris-IMS walked away with the hardware after posting a record-setting time of just 2:18.29 while Southern Company and Intermark closed out the Christmas in August competition in second and third place, respectively.
Steris-IMS rocked each plate in less than two seconds to earn the title of “Fastest Servers” for the third time since entering the competition.
Southern Company, which shared the top honor with Steris-IMS last year, came in just 3.5 seconds slower, while less than half a second separated Intermark from the runner-up spot. Other teams represented included WIAT-CBS 42, BJCC Teammates, UAB Facilities Division, Merrill Lynch, and Doster Construction. The staff and clients of the Mission would like to thank all of this year’s teams for making these two weeks in August exciting!
