In December 2016, The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham announced its plans to invest in innovative programs to move the Greater Birmingham women and their children beyond poverty.
Jessie’s Place of the Jimmie Hale Mission was fortunate to be a part of this recent initiative. Since being founded in 1996, this investment is the largest amount in a single grant cycle from the organization.
“Thanks to generous community support, more women and their children will have the tools they need to build better lives,” said Jeanne Jackson, President and CEO.
Homeless women and children will now have a better chance at long-term success. The grant will support and make available job skills training, affordable housing, child care and career coaches.

I hope women are also provided with support in rearing their children-good practices for emotional health and growth. Women need education in the stages of development and appropriate activities and discipline for the different stages of a child’s life. so many people these days are influenced by addictions . Also, many of these women have not had good role models for being a parent themselves.
Absolutely Jenny! Great comment. Yes, quality childcare resources, as well as parental support in the form of training and classes, is an important part of what Jessie’s Place does. You’re welcome to come take a tour if you’d like!
