Members of the Mission board of directors, its staff, and representatives from the city burn pages from the
property deed at Monday’s celebration

There is a long-standing church tradition of “burning the note” when a property is paid in full. On Monday, members of the Jimmie Hale Mission board of directors, it’s staff, and representatives from the City of Birmingham all participated in a ceremonial burning of the deed to celebrate the nonprofit’s ownership of the Shepura Men’s Center campus downtown.

The city passed a resolution in April of this year that allowed the Mission to take ownership of the site at the halfway point of the 40-year lease. The early acquisition will enable the organization to apply for critical funds that were previously unavailable in an effort to complete its $6 million capital campaign initiative set to break ground next year.

On behalf of the entire Jimmie Hale Mission family, and the countless thousands of clients that will benefit from even better care moving forward, THANK YOU to the City of Birmingham and everyone who made this dream a reality!
