Since opening in their present locations, the Jimmie Hale Mission’s Shepura Men’s Center, Royal Pines, and Jessie’s Place facilities have collectively provided over 1,200,000 nights of refuge to those in need.  Jimmie Hale Mission seeks to raise just over $6 million to enable critical foundational updates to these facilities.

Our Needs

Birmingham businessman and philanthropist Phillip McWane has generously kickstarted the Mission’s Capital Campaign by providing $2 million toward the Shepura Men’s Center dormitory renovation.  Not only did Mr. McWane provide the initial funding for the dormitory renovation, but he also offered valuable input for the architectural plans.  The men’s dorm will be renovated from the open-bay environment with one shared bathroom per floor to a pod cubical room design where smaller groups of men will share bathrooms.  This design restores dignity, promotes camaraderie, and ensures improved sleep, to bolster emotional and mental health.

Jessie’s Place and Royal Pines urgently need HVAC system replacements to continue providing heat and air conditioning in these facilities.  Additionally, the single shared restroom at Jessie’s Place needs plumbing repairs and renovation to provide privacy in showering and adequate space for the increased numbers of women and children who are rebuilding their lives there.

This campaign addresses critical needs that are beyond the scope of our operational budget.  It is only through supplemental generosity that we will be able to reach our goal while continuing to provide FREE life-transforming programs to our clients.  Will you partner with us to ensure that our facilities remain safe and functional so that we can continue our work of leading our most vulnerable neighbors to contributing members of our community?
