“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.”L O for reply card

At our three Stewart Learning Centers (there’s one at each of our residential shelters), this quote sums up what your support helps us to do — teach men and women how to get back to work, support themselves and their families, and get back to life.

Your support helps us provide education remediation and job readiness, which includes our recent partnership with Lawson State Community College.  In working with Workforce Development at Lawson State, the men at our Shepura Men’s Center campus have been able to take electrical and welding classes — something that gives them more than a band-aid, but rather a long-term solution toward a changed life.

At our Jessie’s Place learning center, board member and attorney Perryn Carroll has been conducting mock interviews with the ladies to help them prepare for real job interviews. Other board members Val Walton, Sandee Mogle and Robin Greenlee are working to develop a job preparation program.
