Sometimes people ask us why we do what we do. The answer is – because of James Poe and so many like him. James came to Jimmie Hale Mission as a client 12 years ago.

“When I stepped into church, God gave me back my desire to recover. I always thank God for brining me back.”

Royal Pines Men’s Center sits on a stretch of quiet land in Hayden, Alabama.
This refuge is surrounded by pine trees, open fields, and the steady calm of God’s creation.
For 30 years, Royal Pines has offered men pathways to overcome the root causes of homelessness in a peaceful environment.

“Something supernatural happened to me in that moment. From then on, I saw God
everywhere, especially in Scripture, and my heart was changed.”
At Royal Pines Randal learned how to live again. Through instruction in God’s Word and participating in our Back-to-Life Program he discovered that education isn’t about gaining knowledge, it’s about becoming the person God created you to be.
Rochell was sitting alone and homeless in Linn Park this past winter on a below freezing night when an acquaintance told him about the Jimmie Hale Mission van that was coming by the park to pick up those that needed safe shelter from the bitter cold. That van meant more than just a ride; it meant a hot meal and a safe bed in our Warming Station.

Jessie Hale Downs lived a life of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering compassion. At age 27, along
with her husband, Jimmie Hale, Jessie began the Jimmie Hale Mission to help homeless men in Birmingham.
Jimmie died just months after the Mission opened. Even though Mrs. Jessie was expecting their first child,
she was determined to keep Jimmie’s dream alive, and she continued the Mission by herself for ten years. In
all, Mrs. Jessie served the Mission for an incredible 46 years!
